Personal Letter: On The Importance Of Loving Yourself First

Personal Letter: On The Importance Of Loving Yourself First

If you want my love, you have to learn how to love yourself first.

Trying to find the love in me that you should be looking for in yourself will only lead you to pain, suffering and disappointment, because I cannot supply you with the love that is already inside of you.

It has become quite fashionable to talk about the importance of self love, but unfortunately, there are still far too many who don’t understand the deeper meaning behind these words, and this is reflected in the fact that there are so many so-called love relationships that don’t last.

When you begin to realize the value of loving your self first and that there is no relationship more important than the relationship you have with yourself, then you will be that much closer to reating a healthy and successful love relationship with someone else. And who knows, may be that someone else will be me.

But in the meantime, I cannot give you my love, be cause the demands that you will put upon me will be too great. And in the end, you will only end up hating me for not being able to give to you that you should be giving to yourself. I say this only because there is no love as gratifying or more fulfilling than the love that you will find within yourself.

In many respects, your ability to love yourself is deeply tied into your beliefs and your feelings about God, be cause if you truly believe that God is your creator, then you must know that God loves you and that He would never refuse to give His love to any one of His creations. I can assure you, there is no love that you will ever receive from another more powerful, more lasting and more unconditional, than the love you will receive from God. And just as soon as you learn to open yourself up to it, you can know this for yourself.

It is often said, and it is quite true, that God does not  make mistakes, so whatever negative view you now hold of yourself, you need to know that God does not see you in the same way. And if you could see even half of the beauty that lies inside of you that God can see, then loving yourself would no longer be so difficult.

God has asked us to love others as we love ourself, but trying to love others, instead of, or without loving your self first, will only lead you to misunderstandings, hurt feelings and long lasting discontentment.

So once again I must tell you, if you want my love, you have to learn how to love yourself fi rst, because with out the love of self, and the love of God as fi rst and fore most in your life, you will never ever be able to successfully accept, or fully appreciate, love from someone else.
